What properties can esters offer formulated lubricants?
- Low toxicity
- Reduced friction
- Reduced wear, high temperature stability
- Low temperature flowability
- Low volatility
- Clean burn properties
- High viscosity index
- Reduced flammability
- Excellent solvency properties.
Esters have been components in the formulation of lubricants for many years and are the preferred base oil in many severe applications. The percentage of ester oil used can vary anywhere from 1 to 99% depending upon the desired properties and the type of ester employed.
What types of esters do we offer?
As a world leader in the supply of environmentally acceptable base oils, our ester product range includes;
- Saturated and unsaturated esters.
These esters are individually suited to challenges that can arise in industrial, marine, aviation and automotive applications.

How can I formulate environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) with esters?
European Ecolabel (LuSC list)
Whilst lubricants must comply with strict environmental criteria to be classed as Ecolabel compliant, they must also meet minimum technical performance standards.
